I will be the first to admit that STEM is not my favorite area to teach. If you were to ask me which subjects I do not excel at, I would tell you, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math…STEM! Give me all the books, grammar, art, […]
It is no surprise that I am a huge fan of Evan-Moor products! They are consistently my go-to materials for homeschooling. As I planned for our geography unit this year I was so excited to stumble upon The 7 Continents series! We will be learning […]
I am a big fan of cursive writing! I started both of my girls with cursive writing right around third grade and they love it! This year my son will be in third and he can’t wait to start learning cursive. I wanted to have some daily practice sheets that I could use in conjunction with our current handwriting curriculum and Evan-Moor’s Daily Handwriting Practice book was a great fit!
Peek Inside Daily Handwriting Practice
So, what exactly is Daily Handwriting Practice? Daily Handwriting Practice is a workbook that covers 36 weeks of daily practice. The pages are quick and straightforward and are an amazing way to reinforce proper letter formation. The lessons follow a 5 day a week plan. Monday through Thursday consists of half-page worksheets which give the students a chance to practice writing letters, words, and sentences. On Friday the students will have a full page to complete which gives them a chance to practice at greater length.
Something that really sets Daily Handwriting Practice apart from other practice books that I have seen is that the items being written also teach other information. For example, students could be writing sentences about Geography, Months of the Year, Grammar, or even Animals. It is useful information! In week 7, for example, the students will be learning about the 7 continents. One of their sentences says, “The Earth has seven major continents.” This is information that teaches them right along with practicing and reinforcing handwriting.
The Pros and Cons
I absolutely love this book. It is exactly what I was looking for in a daily practice book for my kids. I wanted something that they could use along with their current handwriting program that would reinforce what they were learning. This completely fits the bill! I LOVE the half-page format because it is a quick and easy sheet that doesn’t overwhelm them. I love the content. The fact that they are learning interesting facts and information while practicing their handwriting is fantastic. They are not just writing fluff sentences like, “I have a dog” over and over again. The topics are interesting. I love how each week has a theme. For example week 18 is all about Owls. Each day will teach a different owl related fact while also reinforcing letter formation, placement, and spacing!
As a mom of 3 kids who are all using or learning cursive, this is such an incredible value. I can use one book and reproduce every page/half-page for each kid…saves so much money! The pages are black and white as well which saves on ink!
The only thing that I would have liked to see would be a little more in the way of individual letter practice at the beginning. There was some and it was a perfect refresher for my girls. However, for my son who is just learning, I think he needed a little bit more. But, as I said, we are using it in conjunction with our other handwriting program so it wasn’t a problem for us at all!

I am so excited to be sharing another amazing resource from Evan-Moor with you! At this point, you may have guessed that I adore Evan-Moor products. They are so educational, reasonably priced, and my kids LOVE them! These are all amazing things, right? So I […]
Have you ever heard of Evan-Moor? If you have been in the homeschooling game for a bit you have likely heard the name or tried some of their amazing books! We have been using Evan-Moor products since we began our homeschooling journey 3 years ago! They are consistently some of our very favorite resources! We have been using History Pockets every single year…they are a favorite of mine and all 3 kids!
Last summer I was introduced to something called TeacherFileBox. TeacherFileBox is an online library of over 450 of Evan-Moor’s amazing resource books. At the time I first learned about it, I had at least 6 Evan-Moor products in my online shopping cart! I didn’t even hesitate…as soon as I checked out the website I signed up! I am SO glad that I did because TeacherFileBox has saved us a ton of money…and more importantly, lots of my sanity!
What IS TeacherFileBox
As I mentioned above, TeacherFileBox is an online library of over 450 of Evan-Moor’s resource books. This is a one-stop shop for all things Evan-Moor! TeacherFileBox is an online subscription that gives you access to a full library of lessons. You will have access to PreK-Grade 8 books across a full range of subjects!! As a homeschooling Mama of 3 kids in 3 different grades…this is AMAZING!
You can choose between a monthly and a yearly subscription. The yearly subscription cost me$99.99 TOTAL for the entire family! That works out to $8.33 a month. Such an amazing deal. You can also choose a month to month subscription which is just $12.99 a month…still an amazing value! Just to be sure that it is a great fit for your family, Evan-Moor has a 30-day free trial! You can try everything with zero risk. That was HUGE in my book…curriculum can be SO expensive, and to know that I could try it and if it wasn’t a great fit I wouldn’t lose $100 was pretty amazing. As soon as I spent a few minutes looking around the site I knew it would be $100 well spent!
WHY I Love TeacherFileBox
Ok, so why do I love TeacherFileBox so much? I have quite a long list of reasons why I think it is fantastic, so let’s chat about a few of them!
Like I mentioned, I LOVE Evan-Moor products. They are such high quality and educational materials…AND the kids LOVE them. They aren’t your typical boring workbooks. They make learning fun. Products like History Pockets and Literature Pockets allow the kids to create a finished handmade project that shows their learning! If we can have fun while we are learning then we have much less whining and complaining when it is time to do schoolwork…this leads to the saving of my sanity! 🙂
Curriculum is expensive. No doubt about it! If I can find a way to save some money and still get an amazing product then I am one happy Mama! Just to give you a little idea about what I used TeacherFileBox for this year here is a list of the main components that we used:
- 7 History Pockets (Life In Plymouth Colony, Native Americans, Moving West, Explorers of North America, Colonial America, Civil War, and the American Revolution)
- Literature Pockets- Caldecott Winners
- Building Spelling Skills for all 3 kids
- Daily Reading Comprehension
- Grammar and Punctuation
- Language Fundamentals
Now those are just the main components. Anytime I planned a lesson I would always start by searching through TeacherFileBox to see what lessons I could add. For example, we are currently doing an Oceanschooling theme for science…I searched for ocean, dolphins, sea turtles etc and found a TON of great materials!
Resources At Your Fingertips
I LOVE having a complete library of resources at my fingertips! We are constantly creating spur of the moment lessons based on interests the kids have, so being able to log on to TeacherFileBox and print out resources is awesome. If you find yourself remembering that tomorrow is the Fourth of July and you have NOTHING planned…you can log on and find a bunch of resources! This is experience talking lol!
I typically sit down on Sunday morning and plan out our week ahead. First, I create packets of info for each kid with their spelling words, grammar worksheets, and any other work we are doing that week. After that, I plan out which History Pockets we are doing and print copies for each kid so that I have it all ready for the week. It is helping this disorganized Mama stay organized…which is basically a miracle!
Also, you can pick and choose the pages that you print! You aren’t stuck printing every page in a chapter or section. If you only need pages 3, 7, 12, and 22…that is ALL you have to print. It is so user-friendly!
GREAT for Homeschooling Multiple Ages
I have already touched on this but want to explain a little further! As a Mama who is teaching 3 different grade levels, I like to teach as much together as I can! Obviously, there are a few topics that are more difficult to teach together, but I do try to do as much as I can together.
Something that I have LOVED about TeacherFileBox is that even though I am printing out 3 different grade levels of Language Fundamentals for example, ALL grade levels are learning the same topics at the same time! For instance, let’s say it is Week 6, when I go to print out all 3 grade levels, ALL 3 levels will be about nouns. So each child is learning about nouns, but it is geared toward their individual grade level. This is the stuff of dreams! That means I can put notes on the whiteboard about one topic and it will help all 3…good stuff!
Where to Find TeacherFileBox

As a long time user of Evan-Moor’s History Pockets, I was so excited to have the chance to review their Literature Pockets! Let me tell you…they did not disappoint! The book that I have chosen to review is Literature Pockets: Non-Fiction for grades 4-6. […]
I am so excited to be reviewing Evan-Moor Skill Sharpeners Science Grade 4! As a homeschooling Mama of 3 kiddos, I am always on the lookout for lessons that I can teach as a whole group! There just aren’t enough hours in the day to create individual instruction in EVERY subject! Some subjects lend themselves much better to group instruction than others…and science just happens to be one of those!
Confession time? Science is NOT my strong suit. If I could teach History, Geography, and Reading ALL day, I would do it in a heartbeat! It’s not that I don’t love science, or find it fascinating…it just isn’t my area of expertise! SO, I am so excited to find Evan-Moor Skill Sharpeners for Science! I am a HUGE fan of the Skill Sharpener books…you can find reviews for Skill Sharpeners Geography here and Critical Thinking right here!
WHAT ARE SKILL SHARPENERS?
Skill Sharpeners are educational activity books created for children in PreK – Grade 6. There are 6 different topics covered: Critical Thinking, Math, Science, Reading, Spell & Write, and Geography. Skill Sharpeners are a perfect addition to any homeschool curriculum to provide enrichment in a specific topic area, to plan grade level appropriate lessons, or as a review. Each Skill Sharpener book is aligned to grade-appropriate standards so you can easily gauge your childs grasp in a particular learning area.

A LOOK INSIDE THE BOOK
As I mentioned above, Skill Sharpeners Science is broken down into 4 main units. Each of those units is then divided into 4 sections. Within the sections, you will see things like reading passages, open-ended question and answers, crossword puzzles, labeling, hands-on activities, experiments, and so much more! I want to take you on a little tour through one of the sections! As a visual learner myself it always helps me to see what is inside!
So, we are going on a little tour of the first section of the first unit: Muscles and Bones! I am just going to share a few of the pages to give you an idea of what is included…but each unit contains much more!
The first part you will come to will be a reading passage! We LOVE that it has the definitions posted above in a box as well as in bold in the reading passage. The paragraphs are short, interesting, and include a great diagram! I also love the addition of the Concepts on the side…very helpful for my kids to understand what the focus area is!
I am so excited to see the inclusion of these hands-on activities! How much fun is this? These are simple activities that do not require a lot of extra supplies but really bring the concept to life for the kids! I can’t wait to do this activity with my kiddos…It is going to be a big hit!
Now, this is absolutely awesome! This is the “application” section. This allows the kids to take what they have learned about and put it into practice! I love that it includes physical activity. My 7 year old loves to be able to get up and move and this is the perfect activity!
I love that there is a chance for the kids to put the vocabulary they have learned into practice! Not only are they learning new words throughout the unit but they are having a chance to test their knowledge.
HOW I PLAN TO USE THE BOOK IN OUR HOMESCHOOL
The thing I love the most about Skill Sharpeners books is how easily I can adapt them for use with all 3 of my kids. I have a second grader, a fourth grader, and a sixth grader. I plan to use the fourth-grade book with all 3 kiddos. For my second grader, I will work with him to complete the work…I know some of it will be over his head but I also know that he will absolutely be able to grasp a lot of the information because it is presented in such a kid-friendly manner. He will also adore the crossword puzzles, experiments, and hands-on activities. For my sixth grader, I will add in some additional vocabulary words and perhaps an extra writing assignment…I honestly think that she will greatly benefit from the information presented in the book even though it is geared for fourth grade. This is what I love about the books!
FOR MORE INFORMATION
I highly recommend Skill Sharpeners Science for any homeschooling family looking to add some science to their lives! I can’t say enough wonderful things about all of the Skill Sharpener books that I have had a chance to use. They are such beautiful and interesting books that are presented in such a great way for kids of all ages.
